Enjoy a unique concert with bandoneon and guitar duet. Together for the first time, these two great Yucatecan musicians of international stature take their music to other latitudes, playing tango, chamber music and Latin American rhythms.
Their collaboration begins in 2022 with the intention of performing the Concerto for Guitar, Bandoneon and Strings by the celebrated Argentine composer Ástor Piazzolla and the many other works that have been written specifically for this ensemble or that can be adapted due to the versatility of the instruments.
With international musical agendas and living in different cities and countries, Alejandro and David have chosen Yucatán, their home state, to start this new collaboration and have it as a natural venue for future projects.

Es un guitarrista y compositor mexicano originario de Umán, Yucatán. comienza sus estudios formales de guitarra a la edad de 15 años en el Centro Estatal de Bellas Artes del Estado de Yucatán. Se graduó como concertista en la Facultad de Música de la UNAM donde estudió la carrera de guitarra clásica bajo la tutela del Dr. Juan Carlos Laguna. Actualmente reside en la Ciudad de México donde se presenta en sus distintos proyectos como solista en recitales con ensambles y repertorio para la guitarra clásica y eléctrica.
He has won national and international awards, including:
1st place in the Zapopan National Guitar Competition, Jalisco (2021)
1st place in the composition contest "A Song for Umán" organized by the H. Ayuntamiento de Umán within the framework of the XXX anniversary of the City of Umán (2020)
2nd place in the international classical guitar competition "Agustín Barrios Guitar Competition" organized in Tübingen, Germany. (2020)
2nd place en Thailand International Guitar Competition
3rd place in the National Classical Guitar Competition "Guillermo Flores Méndez" organized in Mexico City (2020)
3rd place in the composition contest of Trova Yucateca “Trovirus” Organized in Mérida, Yucatán by the Fundación Mayas de Yucatán. (2021) Honorable Mention in the 3rd New Works Interpretation Contest organized by “Panamá Guitar Festival” with the work “Mixturas” (2021)
He was selected in 2015 to participate in Berklee Latino (a week-long program where teachers from the famous school in Boston, USA offer a popular music course in Mexico City) where he performed with his Jazz ensemble in the Auditorium of the Cultural Center Robert Cantoral. In 2017 he participated in the 44th Jazz Festival of the Superior School of Music with the FaM Jazz Ensemble. He recently performed in Europe at the “Internationales Gitarrenfestival Tübingen” in Germany where he played his own music and compositions. He is currently preparing his next tour with the Mexico City Guitar Youth Orchestra, a project to which he belongs since 2021, where he will perform as a soloist at the international guitar orchestra festival in the city of Cali, Colombia.

Conductor, bandoneon player and tango specialist, Alejandro Pinzón is an artist who seeks to inspire others through artistic experiences and innovative programs. His varied repertoire of cultural activities and artistic projects have taken him around the world, since his musical beginnings in his native Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
En 2008 obtuvo la maestría en dirección de orquesta en la University of Texas at El Paso, en los Estados Unidos (Primer yucateco con dicho título). Ahí estudió por dos años con el Dr. Lowell Graham, ex director y comandante de la Banda Sinfónica de la Fuerza Aérea de EUA. Asimismo, completó los estudios de doctorado en dirección de orquesta en West Virginia University, con el Dr. Mitchell Arnold como su maestro principal.
In 2005, Maestro Pinzón studied with the conductor Christoph Hagel, at his invitation, in Berlin, Germany. His first lessons in conducting were from Dr. Leroy Osmon, a Pulitzer Prize- and Grammy-nominated composer.
Ha dirigido orquestas y bandas sinfónicas, orquestas de cámara, coros y producciones de ópera en México, Estados Unidos y Argentina. Entre ellas destacan: Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, Morgantown Community Orchestra, Washington Symphony Orchestra, UTEP Music Theater Company, WVU Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Cattaruzzi de Argentina, Orquesta de Cámara de Xalapa, Orquesta de la Ciudad de Mérida, Compañía de Ópera de Yucatán, Coro Latinoamericano Pittsburgh, OvreArts Sinfonía, entre otras. Como cofundador y codirector de la “Camerata 33”, ayuda a promover la música de cámara latinoamericana en los Estados Unidos de América.
A partir de 2007 comienza un estudio profundo del tango argentino, tanto música como baile. En 2015, tras ser violinista por 20 años, se convierte en el primer ejecutante yucateco del bandoneón. El maestro Pinzón es un bandoneonista con amplia curiosidad artística. El bandoneón es el emblemático y complejo instrumento del tango.
También en 2015, desarrolla su concepto “Maestro Tango”, con el que viaja internacionalmente para dar clases maestras de música y baile, dirigir conciertos, tocar con distintas orquestas y para dar conferencias sobre la historia del tango. “Maestro Tango” se ha presentado en más de una decena de estados de la unión americana, así como en México, España, Grecia y Alemania.
His recent performances include solo appearances with: Pittsburgh Symphony Soloists, Cirrus Collective (for Chamber Music Pittsburgh), Bravo Quartet, and WVU Symphony Orchestra. In March 2022 she will make her debut with the Pittsburgh Chamber Orchestra and have her first performance at Carnegie Hall in Carnegie, Pennsylvania.
