The temperature has the quality of influencing our mood, however, we cannot remember it when they ask us, how was the cold? Being right now experiencing the heat. The New Painting by Carlos Nuñez, now exhibited at Casa Gemela, is an example of this omnipresent portrait that the author makes of temperature; this nebulous image that he uses as a motive to address issues of more complex concern.
In this new pictorial series we see landscapes built simultaneously by figurative images, as well as abstract ones; characters that appear and seem to disappear, after a misty game of layers and glazes. Similarly, there are a series of poetic and literary texts that the author has decided to encrypt within the painting. These are complex images that require stillness and time to fully comprehend, paintings that have been arranged to be viewed and explore various themes, such as US-Mexico migration, the iconography of home, and a sense of Identity and Belonging that leads us to find ourselves trapped, as if it were a strange dream, in this series of landscapes that cannot tell us if we are completely free.
