Abstraction has evolved its formal and significant features without leaving behind the new contributions and the way of conceiving art since the middle of the 20th century. Today, we are before an artist who has transformed his work and the materials he uses in it in an original way. The start applying watercolor on paper, to pass to acrylic and later to the integration of various materials that your trained eyes accidentally find or have on hand, such as paper, cardboard, wire, remains of paint that have dried in the boat or fragments of iron beautifully rusted by time, which he hoards as a hunter for lots of junk, transforming them, to through a new aesthetic organization on the surface of the canvas, in a sublime dialogue between them.
Instead of speaking from our perspective about the work of Maestro Jaime Barrera and trying to define his creative process, we believe it is better to give way to the author's own words, to know through his particular way of seeing and conceiving his pictorial world, his work:
"It really doesn't matter the typecasting or the location of my painting in multiple pictorial movements contemporaries. And it is that my painting is not so rigid or too planned. It is not systematic or methodical. Change the method a lot. Sometimes I start at one end or the other, other times I follow another plan, without starting with a place certain. I don't have a rigorous discipline. I paint what I want and when I want. It makes me want to paint and I paint. My work could be said to be located within abstraction poetry, whose lyricism is sustained on a composition freely conceived and with a color that springs from my soul. The forms of these paintings, the figures, structures, strokes and graphics enclose all languages, they are timeless, without memory. They venture to contain an infinite expression, the one that everyone wants to give it at different times. in it there is forms submerged between layers of matter, or superimposed, linked, blurred, transformed for the purpose of provoke in the spectator an atmosphere that seduces the senses.
I only suggest emotions, ideas, feelings through of my painting and the spectator finishes them with his own evocations and conclusions. This is because the abstract allows more reading possibilities than the figure, in such a way way that the spectator participates and finishes the work. My painting demands intense concentration and it is when a torrent of abstract shapes and colors rush into my brain with endless aesthetic options, desperate for born... Once defined and selected, I play with them and only after a mental process they become present to always on canvas or paper. It's an act of magic ends up fully satisfying my spirit and my conscience.”
